The history of the finds on the Datça Peninsula dates back to 2000s BC. The first known indigenous people were the Karyalis, where the most brilliant period took place during the Dorlar. The Dorlar descended to the south through Thrace in 1000 BC and came to the region via Greece and founded Knidos, the center of Doric civilization in the Burgaz locality, 1.5 km northeast of today's Datça district center. Later, Knidos, who came under Lydian sovereignty, came under the rule of Persians after the Lydian State passed into the Persians in 546 BC.
